WASHINGTON, February 28, 2006- The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:
Â
IDA GRANT: US$30 million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The objective of this project is to reduce infant and child mortality, maternal mortality, child malnutrition, and fertility by expanding the delivery of basic health services, and making sure that these services reach Afghan citizens equally. The grant will increase the Ministry of Public Health’s stewardship over the sector, including a greater role in healthcare financing, coordination of partners, and overseeing the work of NGOs. It will also build the capacity of Afghan health workers to provide and manage health services.
