As part of the World Bank Investment Climate Capacity Enhancement Program in Serbia, nearly 40 government officials, representatives from commercial banks and key financial institutions, and academic experts in Belgrade and Washington held a GDLN policy dialogue on October 13, 2004. Participants focused in particular on ways to improve private sector access to finance, evaluating policy options and comparing international best practices to reduce the constraints to market dynamism in a post-conflict and post-socialist environment.

The GDLN provided an unique opportunity to stimulate a timely debate and exchange of ideas on the role of public policies for strengthening Credit Reporting and Access to Finance in Serbia. The policy dialogue also focused on key policy alternatives and international best practices to improve Access to Finance for Small and Medium Enterprises.
